Exploring design happiness

In this moment, we are experiencing significant change and cultural upheaval. Our sense of hope and happiness, our celebration of the good and what brings us joy, is being tested. Yet instead of folding, we as creative leaders need to lean into optimism with renewed rigour, protect the meaningful moments we can celebrate, and bring positive leadership to creativity, light to the dark, and inspiration to every conversation.

Introducing Clear Sky. In this multi-part series, the Clear team explores and celebrates the boldness of our design process, uncovering the possibilities of design, art direction, animation, research, interviews, and music to deliver design happiness. We know that when happiness becomes a core creative value, our approach to work and life is enhanced. As a studio, we are committed to delivering creative joy.

Wonder

The Clear Sky, the ‘Wonder’ Edition, was designed by the fabulous Fanny Sallinen, Designer. For Fanny, ‘wonder’ is about curiosity, experimentation, and making time for play. Inspired by her interest in travel, she is originally from Finland, and her love for new cuisines and her passion for illustration led her to create our chief protagonist, Walter, to actively explore the possibility of ‘what if…’

Clear extended the invitation to Kate Myronova, CUUB Studio project manager, architect, and artist, who is driven by a love for urbanism, Dnipro, Ukraine, and is a firm believer in goodness. ‘Clear Sky is that precious moment when the noise disappears, and you can finally exhale.’

Joy

The Clear Sky, the ‘Joy’ Edition, was designed by Tyler Zebra, Senior Designer, Motion. For Tyler, ‘joy’ lives in the outdoors, in the walking, the uphills, the camping, and the bike packing. He leaned into his mastery of animation, custom typography, and photography to create his ode to ‘Mount Feathertop’.

Clear called on Crystal Fong, moderator, strategist, copywriter, GradDipPsych, and ‘one who inspires’, to share her insights into what brings her joy and how growing up in Malaysia has shaped her outlook. She recalled hearing stories from local Buddhists of a ‘clear sky mind’, the purest state, like a clear blue sky, a metaphor for our true state of being.

Fun

The Clear Sky, the ‘Fun’ Edition, the inaugural edition of the series, was designed by Maya Norman, a design intern from Leeds, UK. For Maya, ‘fun’ begins with fearless exploration, as she willingly jumped into the deep end to visually interpret the name ‘Clear Sky’ through typography, colour, and movement.

The EDM series reflects the importance of design exploration and team collaboration. It is a direct communication to our clients, suppliers, followers, and alumni, celebrating the good and championing the great.

Clear enlisted Emily Breakell, Creative Director at Clear, to share her insights about graphic design and the importance of joy. Emily believes that joy can be found in most things; sometimes, you might just have to search a bit harder. Our brains are constantly rewiring, so with practice, you can teach your brain to search for the ‘1% improvement’ in everyday life. Whatever area that touches, making micro improvements, mindsets, or adjustments amounts to big, positive shifts in the long term.
