Kindred People. A landmark Indigenous-led festival of art, culture, knowledge sharing, ceremony, and connection

Kindred People is a landmark Indigenous-led festival of art, culture, knowledge sharing, ceremony, and connection. Guiding the festival with cultural authority and deep care is Professor N’arwee’t Carolyn Briggs AM, Senior Boon Wurrung Elder and member of the Kindred People Steering Committee and is curated by Gunditjmara man Tom Molyneux.

Kindred People will bring together communities from across the globe in September 2026.

Clear was entrusted to observe, listen, and create the strategy and vision, branding and campaign for Kindred People Awaken ‘Murrup’; the creative spirit that lives within each of us. Clear became the brand conduit between traditional owners and Monash University to form and shape the festival’s creative vision.

The visual identity and design language were developed in partnership with Gumbaynggirr artist and activist Aretha Brown, weaving together a constellation of symbols, each filled with metaphors, knowledge, protest, optimism, and change. A customised wordmark using stylised graphic lettering was developed to complement Aretha’s work, supporting and reinforcing her geometric and rhythmic structures, creating a flexible, distinctive, and identifiable festival brand built on connection.

For me, art is cultural memory; it carries our songlines, our histories, and the power to unlearn, relearn, and rise together.
