Volume 09
Welcome back to the Isolation Diaries, our weekly round-up of the things that bring us joy and keep us motivated. This week, we’re working hard, reading with Taika and making macramé. What have you been up to?
Wish you had a green thumb? Green, from Jason Chongue of The Plant Society, will teach you all about how to curate and care for your greenest friends in small urban spaces. If this sparks your curiosity for learning, we’ve subscribed to New Scientist and it’s been a treat for discovering new worldly perspectives in science, tech and health. We’re also re-familiarising ourselves with The Statement of the Heart, this week marks three years since the announcement.
Today is a good day. You can now have stories read to you by Taika Waititi and other notable celeb friends. Who wouldn’t want that? Here’s Roald Dahl’s James and the Giant Peach. If you feel like getting out but can’t, Shaun Gladwell’s Midnight Traceur takes you on a parkour journey around Sydney. Otherwise, you can head on a ‘virtual excursion’ to watch In My Blood It Runs, an intimate film about our education system and First Nations youth.
Macramé is the next logical move from knitting, right? Right. We’re still baking, this time it’s Kate Reid of Lune Croissanterie teaching us the perfect scones. Mark Bittman is coming through with the goods—thanks, Cinnamon for the recommendation—we’re looking forward to trying this babka. And our friend Adam at Streetsmart has been working to feed people in need while keeping hospo employees in work, how great is that? You can donate a meal here.
Things are slowly creeping back to some sense of normality, so we’re going back to good ol’ Drake. During this time, it’s all about Conversations, we even made a playlist that’s centred around talking (not-so-subtle hint to call us for chats). Speaking of conversations, Gossip is a scripted podcast series about three unlikely friends catching up for coffee and—well, gossip—at the local café. We’ll avoid spoilers, but there’s something suspicious going on in Golden Acres.
