Welcome back to the Isolation Diaries, our weekly round-up of the things that bring us joy, keep us creatively motivated and help us unwind. What have you been up to?
Mushroom in your life for adventures? Entangled Life is a deep dive into the world of fungi, the strange beings that are neither plant nor animal. We’re continuing our home herbology degree by learning about the histories and uses of herbs for both food and wellbeing (we’re also skimming through to look at the pictures). Following on from last week, this time Rolling Stone is taking us on a journey through the best albums of the 90s.
Masked enigma that he is, Martin Margiela: In his own words explores the career of a fascinating designer, and interviews some well-known faces (not Margiela’s of course), such as Jean-Paul Gaultier. Iliza Schlesinger brings the bride-themed laughs to get you through lockdown, but Shudder is bringing the scare factor. A streaming service entirely made up of thriller, horror and suspense, Shudder offers both on-demand viewing, and a 24/7 live-stream.
Practising gratitude can be a great way to ease anxiety, especially good for this current climate where stress levels can get pretty high at times. Milligram’s gratitude journal includes some inspiration to help you get started—Embrace the moment and fill it with your thoughts, feelings, life goals and what you’re thankful for. We’re always keen on making new fronds. And we’ve been cooking up some Chicken Quesadillas, a favourite rainy day comfort food.
We sadly lost famed Americana muso Justin Townes Earle this week, so we’re making our way through his records starting with The Saint of Lost Causes. He will be missed. For something celebratory, we’ve been reminiscing with this Groove Armada compilation, a pretty great ‘starter kit’ intro to a music duo that have been around since the late 1990s. Speaking of the 90s, from the same team that brought you that very ad-hoc 80s playlist, we present six hours of 90s tunes.
