Volume 13
Welcome back to the Isolation Diaries, our weekly round-up of the things that bring us joy, keep us creatively motivated and help us unwind. What have you been up to?
This week, we’ve run out of baking inspiration so have turned to baking experts Beatrix for cake ideas. Beatrix Bakes is our new guide and saviour. We’re not really reading this one, but looking at the pictures—Consume Consume is an eclectic visual assemblage of… Stuff. Cool stuff, weird stuff, cute stuff, hilarious stuff. Maybe set yourself a time limit on browsing it though, you can get really lost in that feed. Feeling a bit rock ‘n’ roll and expressive? Well, this interview with well-known English artist and designer Chris Ashworth is a great read and gives an interesting insight into his analog methods.
We loved the psychological (Drama? Comedy? Both?) miniseries Maniac, so much that we’ve started rewatching it. We’ve also started Money Heist, a Spanish drama series set in Madrid. Consisting of four parts over two seasons, it portrays heists on the Royal Mint of Spain and the Bank of Spain. The series has a distinctive look to it (with a LOT of red), definitely worth a watch. It must be something about winter, but we’ve gone back to watch all of our favourite sci-fi too. Starting with The Martian, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and the original Blade Runner, we’re making it all the way through this list.
Still waiting on ours to arrive, but these amazing kits really are all the happiness. With an amazing selection of knitting, petit point, crochet or hand dye, We Are Knitters will give you all the supplies you need to get crafty (and maybe even get a scarf out of it, probably in time for next winter). Gin is still our first love, and we’re always excited about a new cocktail recipe. Here are ten easy ones you can make at home. And in between knitting and making cocktails, we’re making fools of ourselves. This 90s dance party workout is a fun iso activity (in a totally ironic way, we swear), so why not break a sweat while you dance like nobody’s watching?
You say you want a revolution, well, you know. We all want to change the world. The world is currently changing and we are ready for it with some great protest songs. We’re also enjoying the best of Tarantino, with a 2-hour+ collation of his classic movie tracks (iconic). And for our weekly podcast, we’re enjoying the Louis Theroux Grounded series, where he uses this lockdown time to track down all the high-profile people he’s always wanted to talk to. From Helena Bonham Carter to Jon Ronson, there are some characters here. Louis asks them about topics like their childhoods, cults, conspiracy theories and the 80s. Casual banter really.
