Welcome back to the Isolation Diaries, our weekly round-up of the things that bring us joy, keep us creatively motivated and help us unwind. What have you been up to?
We’ve added to our reading list to brush up on our racing knowledge for Ford v Ferrari. A sci-fi favourite, we’re completely captivated by Restoree, Anne McCaffrey’s first published book. It’s pretty unlike anything else out there. We’re eagerly awaiting the arrival of Death In Her Hands, from the author of Eileen, one of the strangest books of 2015.
Not sure how many times we’ve watched Black Books, the classic series that has a plethora of fresh-faced cameos, but either way—it’s the perfect time to watch it again. Our weekend movie night screening includes The Old Guard, a warrior hero story starring Charlize Theron. We might even finish off the evening with Ford v Ferrari.
Jamie Oliver’s simple 5-ingredient recipes have been a godsend of late. With standout options for veg-heads, meat lovers, and fish favourers, there’s something here for everyone. We’re also getting snacky with Minimalist Baker again. And more pickling, it’s the perfect thing when you’re tired of baking bread! Try this roasted and pickled celeriac from Ottolenghi.
Remember the 2000s? Were they called the noughties? Unsure of the official title, but we’re calling them the ‘Oohs’ and we’ve put together a few hours’ worth of them. We’re going back through all the greatest from Grimes, and Freakonomics is teaching us the up and downsides of being goal-oriented, in this podcast episode.
